Cheshire Cat Photo is a small business aimed at bringing a grin to editors who need stock photos of California and to everyone who has visited or dreamed of visiting destinations in the "Golden State".

California, with its promises of new opportunities and new beginnings, has attracted people since before the Gold Rush days. The natural beauty of California, from the Sierra to the Pacific, has been a central part of that attraction. California's businesses, from agricultural to high-tech, and California's rich multicultural history, have added to the draw.

At Cheshire Cat Photo, we focus on California - its natural beauty, rich history, travel destinations, cities, businesses, and outdoor recreation. Stock and Fine Art digital photos - of California destinations, businesses, cities, and people - continue to tell stories of the unique California Wonderland.

Livermore - The Robert Livermore Community Center on East Avenue is hosting an art exhibit by LAA Gallery artists, the month of December. Located on first floor, the show includes a colorful variety of drawings, paintings and photographs. The LAA Gallery is an art co-op run by the local artists themselves. The community center is open 8-6M-Th, 8-5 Friday, and 9-noon Saturday.

10/30/2011: Only the hosted (GoDaddy, on Linux) Web site of Cheshire Cat Photo was compromised; the internal network runs on Macintosh. The (apparently) Russians gained entry to the Web site via a vulnerable version of the 1-flash-gallery plugin for Wordpress, which was active only briefly. We performed critical parts of the cleanup yesterday and today, and we expect to have cleanup finished by tomorrow (Halloween, October 31). We will request a review by Google to have the site advisory lifted, probably tomorrow. Thank you for your patience. We apologize for the inconvenience.

10/29/2011: Yes, a Linux server at GoDaddy that hosts the cheshirecatphoto.com site was apparently hacked by the Russians. Hey! It happens to Google, Adobe, Microsoft, VeriSign, RSA, and CERT, and it happened to us. We are working with GoDaddy to clean up after the incursion. We will keep you posted.

10/04/2011: I photographed the wedding and reception of two friends of mine, whom I shall call "J" and "P," on Saturday, October 1, at a beautiful little church in El Cerrito. My friends are both professionals and have collected a multi-cultural group of wonderful friends in their educations and jobs. The wedding ceremony was outdoors, which is still possible in California in October (the day was beautiful and warm), although we received our first winter rain yesterday, with more to come tonight and early tomorrow. The reception was indoors, in the main room, walled with glass on two sides and a with a commanding view of San Francisco Bay. I will showcase some of the images, after I complete my processing of the hundreds and hundreds of camera RAW photographs.

Livermore, CA -"Art in Carnegie Park" on Saturday September 10, is a fun summer event the whole family can enjoy. Over 25 local artists will fill Carnegie Park in downtown Livermore with arts and crafts for sale, and provide art demonstrations. Shoppers can purchase art directly from the artists. There will also be music, local wines and delicious barbecue. This year two dance groups, Le Tableau Magnifique Ballet company and the Livermore Jazz Company, are performing in the park. Island Girl will be providing snow cones and kids activities such as face painting. Visitors can also shop in the LAA Gallery, located in the middle of the park in the historic Carnegie building. The art gallery is a co-op run by the artists themselves. Carnegie Park is at 3rd & K street in downtown Livermore. The gallery is open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, and is always free to the enter. 07/23/2011: I want to thank and congratulate the young couple who purchased (Print #1) of a 16x20-inch print (matted and framed to 20x24 inches) of the image below of an old (and still doing its job pumping water for livestock) Aeromotor windmill on Hartford Avenue north of Livermore. The colors of the hills reflect that time of spring (April 18 that year) when rains have (generally) stopped and some parts of the hills dry out faster than others. The low rays of the evening sun accentuate the hilly landscape. I have removed the print from my "Featured Prints" page, although I may print Print #2 in the future (especially if I receive a request for the image). My "Featured Prints" are all signed (for framed and matted prints, in three places) and numbered. A "squared-off" version of the image has been very popular on coasters at art fairs and other events.

Special "Gardens to Art" indoor exhibit built by Alden Lane Nursery

Livermore, CA - The 25th anniversary of "Art Under the Oaks is the weekend of July 23 and 24. Hosted by the Livermore Art Association and Alden Lane Nursery, the event combines art, food and live music under the nursery's beautiful oak canopy. Over 40 local artists will display art for sale, offering an array of paintings, prints, pottery, jewelry, baskets, fiber arts and photography. Other activities include fruit tasting, live music, wine tasting offered by eleven local wineries, and a grand door prize. Tri-Valley Woodcarvers return this year to show their sculptures inside the exotic flower building. Also, Charles Harder will be demonstrating bonsai techniques on junipers and other plants. Alden Lane will host a leaf-painting class at 3:00 on Saturday.

To celebrate the event's 25th year, Alden Lane is building a special "Gardens to Art" exhibit inside Ruthie's room. They will combine artworks with flowers and babbling fountains to create a resplendent garden setting.

The show is open from 11:00 am - 4:00 both days, with free admission. Alden Lane Nursery is at the corner of Holmes and Alden Lane in Livermore. Overflow parking will be available at Sunset Plaza, at the corner of Concannon & Holmes. There is a free shuttle to the nursery. 07/12/2011: We hung the LAA "Back to the Future Show" today at the Bankhead Theater on First Street in Livermore, CA. The Press Release, which I wrote and my Publicity Chair approved, is below, along with two images by founders and early contributors of the Livermore Art Association (LAA). Downtown Livermore "Back to the Future Show" is from July 13 - September 19

Livermore - On Wednesday, July 13, Livermore Art Association (LAA) will open the "Back to the Future Show" at the Bankhead Theater in downtown Livermore. The show, produced by LAA in conjunction with the Bothwell Art Center, honors LAA Founders and early contributors while showing changes in artistic expression of LAA members through time. There are 30 artworks for the public to enjoy, with the common theme, "Through Time." The display will remain up through September 19. Most artworks are for sale. There will be a free reception that is open to the public on Thursday, August 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The show will be open during Bankhead Theater events. A very-late 1-inch snowfall last night at Lake Tahoe and a forecast 1-3 inches of snow today has delayed the start of Stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California cycling race, with a shortened Stage 1 planned to begin at 1:15 PM PDT if weather conditions improve. Weather did NOT improve in Tahoe, and Stage 1 of the race was canceled.

04/07/2011: The last week was a real blur, ending with a VERY successful Spring Art Show at the Barn in Livermore (1, 2, 3), the taking down of my exhibit at the First Street Alehouse, an LAA Board Meeting, a significant (aren't they ALL? :-) ) birthday, and subbing in for a team captain during an LAA Circuit change yesterday! Heck, I even had time to get a haircut and mow my lawn! Both hair and lawn had been growing profusely, the lawn from all of the recent rain that also prevented me from cutting it! Today, I am finishing residual work, accomplishing some tasks for NEXT YEAR's Spring Art Show (the band is booked!), and thinking about when I can work in a day of shooting that I have been planning for awhile! On the horizon are The Essential Nude show with reception on April 14 and running from April 15-17 (no, I don't have an entry, but will definitely attend), the Carnegie Centennial Art & History Fair on May 14 (Cheshire Cat Photo will have a booth), and the "LAA Exhibit" Art Show in Carnegie Park the morning of the Amgen Tour of California cycle race (heck yeah, we'll be there!). From this time of year onward, the Art never stops in Livermore, California. Pretty soon, we hope to make it seamlessly continuous! :-) Come visit!
